Technology
Wood pellet grills burn compressed wood pellets to produce a consistent heat. Electricity is required to power the hotrod, which ignites the pellets; the fan, which forces air into the combustion chamber creating flame; and the pellet feed auger, which transports pellets from the hopper to the combustion chamber. Temperature is adjusted by increasing or decreasing the speed of the fan and the flow of pellets into the combustion chamber.
Flavour – Taste is the greatest asset of pellet grills. Flavoured pellets are paired with the food, for example, mesquite with meat, cedar with fish, and apple for baking.
Flexibility – Pellet grills operate like a convection oven and are ideal for baking muffins to pizza. At low temperatures, the unit becomes a smoker and at high temperatures it cooks like a barbeque or grill.
Safety – No more flare ups. Pellet grills have a drain tray that removes grease. No more propane, gas leaks, charcoal, smouldering briquettes or lighter fluid. All this is replaced by an electrode and wood pellets making outdoor cooking a safer, friendlier experience.
Green Solutions – Pellets are made from recycled hardwood sawdust, a product that would otherwise be considered waste from the hardwood industry. This is a natural biomass fuel. No fossil fuels of any kind are used in the combustion process. Because of the convection cooking system, fat content and charring are reduced, thus decreasing cancer-causing “benzoapyrene” associated with traditional barbecuing. The hardwood smoke from the wood pellets produces antioxidants similar to vitamin E.
